We are seeking a strategic, hands-on Vice President of Finance to lead the financial operations of a fast-paced, growth-oriented construction company based in Charleston, SC. The ideal candidate will bring deep financial expertise, construction industry knowledge, and the ability to build and lead a high-performing finance team. This role is responsible for overseeing all financial aspects of the business, including monthly closes, budgeting, forecasting, cash flow management, job costing, audit readiness, and strategic planning.
The VP of Finance will serve as a critical member of the executive leadership team, providing insight, direction, and analysis that ensure fiscal health, operational efficiency, and scalable growth.
Key Responsibilities:
Financial Strategy & Leadership
- Serve as a financial advisor to the CEO and executive team, contributing to long-term strategy and decision-making.
- Lead and develop a strong finance and accounting team; instill financial discipline across departments.
- Provide timely, accurate reporting of financial performance, KPIs, and trends.
Accounting & Controls
- Oversee all aspects of the accounting function, including monthly, quarterly, and year-end closes.
- Ensure adherence to GAAP and regulatory requirements.
- Implement and maintain robust internal controls and policies.
Budgeting, Forecasting & Planning
- Drive the annual budgeting process and regular forecasting updates.
- Monitor and analyze financial results against budgets; proactively identify risks and opportunities.
- Develop financial models to support business growth and project profitability.
Cash Flow & Treasury Management
- Oversee cash management, banking relationships, lines of credit, and working capital optimization.
- Ensure liquidity needs are met while managing financial risk and investment strategy.
Job Costing & Project Oversight
- Partner with project managers to develop accurate job cost reports, WIP schedules, and billing forecasts.
- Support estimation and pricing strategies with historical financial data and margin analysis.
Audit, Tax, and Compliance
- Manage the preparation for financial audits and work with external auditors and tax advisors.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local reporting requirements.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (MBA or CPA preferred).
- Minimum 7 years of progressive finance leadership experience, preferably in the construction industry.
- Proven ability to build financial systems and processes from the ground up in a fast-paced environment.
- Experience with construction accounting systems
- Strong understanding of WIP, percent-complete revenue recognition, and job cost accounting.
- Demonstrated ability to mentor, develop, and lead a team.
- Exceptional analytical, communication, and strategic thinking skills.
