My client is seeking a Plant Manager in Grand Rapids, MI.  The Plant Manager directs, manages, and optimizes the company's operations and financial performance. They are responsible for effectively and successfully managing labor, productivity, quality control, continual improvement, and safety measures. They ensure that goods and services are produced efficiently and that the correct amount is produced at the right cost and level of quality. Ensures that policies and procedures are understood and followed by all. Meets customer requirements by developing, implementing, and evaluating production planning, engineering, quality, purchasing, warehousing, and shipping policies and procedures; assessing materials; and managing staff. Systematically collects operational metrics to analyze productivity and sets performance targets to meet revenue and cost goals.

Essential Responsibilities:

  1. Production Oversight

Oversee the entire production process to ensure products are produced according to specifications and in the most cost-effective manner.

Ensure optimal productivity and product quality while minimizing waste.

  1. Personnel Management

Supervise, train, and evaluate team members, ensuring that they are competent and have the necessary resources to do their jobs.

Handle recruitment, development, and retention strategies for team members.

  1. Quality Assurance

Ensure that the quality of the products meets or exceeds industry standards.

Implement quality assurance processes and checks.

  1. Budgeting and Financial Oversight

Assist in developing and managing the plants budget.

Monitor operational costs and implement cost-saving measures where appropriate.

  1. Safety and Compliance

Implement and maintain safety protocols, ensuring that all operations comply with safety regulations.

Stay up to date with industry regulations and ensure that the plant remains compliant.

Address any violations or potential violations immediately.

  1. Maintenance and Equipment

Ensure machinery and equipment are maintained and are in good working condition.

Oversee repairs, installations, and upgrades as needed.

  1. Continuous Improvement

Implement lean manufacturing practices, quality control processes, and other best practices.

Analyze production metrics to identify areas of improvement.

  1. Supply Chain Management

Coordinate with suppliers to ensure timely delivery of raw materials.

Monitor inventory levels and ensure optimal stock levels are maintained.

  1. Communication

Serve as primary liaison between the plant and corporate office or other entities.

Ensure open communication lines between departments and levels of personnel.

  1. Customer Relations

Address customer complaints or feedback related to product quality or delivery.

Collaborate with sales and customer service teams to ensure customer satisfaction.

Non-Essential Responsibilities:

  1. Other duties as assigned.

Supervision Received:

Limited Direction: Works from overall policies, goals, and budgetary limits. Virtually self-supervising with direct accountability for final results.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Advanced supervision: Determines work assignments, priorities, and procedures for subordinates. Responsible for assigning, scheduling, and ensuring the quality and quantity of work. Approves time off and schedule adjustments. Provides training and coaching

Education & Experience:

  1. Bachelor's degree in management or equivalent work experience.
  2. 10+ years of experience in Production and Manufacturing Management.

Other Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  1. Demonstrated ability in Process Improvement.
  2. Understanding of material management activities in a manufacturing setting.
  3. Trained in LEAN principles.
  4. ERP Systems
  5. Production Planning and Scheduling
  6. Value Stream Mapping
